September 25 - 28, 2018, the All-Russian Scientific Conference “Seas of Russia: Methods, Means and Research Results” was held at Marine Hydrophysical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Sevastopol) and the Black Sea Hydrophysical Polygon (Katsiveli). The conference were organized by: Federal State Budget Scientific Institution “Marine Hydrophysical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences” (FSBSI MHI), Federal State Budget Scientific Institution “The Black Sea Hydrophysical Polygon of the RAS” and the Oceanology, Atmospheric Physics and Geography Section of the Department Earth Science of the Russian Academy of Sciences with the support of the Russian Foundation for Basic Research under the project No. 18-05-20079 G and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.
The conference was aimed to analyze the current level and results of studies of physical, geological, biogeochemical and environmental processes in the seas of Russia, discuss key areas of research and development that ensure the scientific and technical development of the marine sector of the Russian economy, including the technological and environmental safety of nature management.
The opening of the conference took place on September 25 on the basis of the Black Sea Hydrophysical Polygon of RAS (the village of Katsiveli). Within the framework of the first conference day, a seminar of the Oceanology, Atmospheric Physics and Geography Section of the Department of Earth Sciences of RAS was held in the conference hall of the Polygon.
The conference was attended by more than 150 scientists from 54 scientific organizations of Russia – specialists in oceanology, marine physics, geography, ocean geology, biogeochemistry, marine information systems and the law of the sea. Among them, there are academicians, corresponding members and professors of RAS, the leaders in the field of oceanological research recognized by the world community. The conference was organized in the form of plenary, sectional and poster presentations in the following areas: theoretical research and numerical modeling in oceanology; methods, tools and results of interdisciplinary research of marine systems; current state and actual problems of information support of fundamental and applied problems of oceanology. During the plenary and breakout sessions 125 reports were delivered, 42 reports were presented as part of the poster session.
