The Scientific Conference The Seas of Russia: Science, Security and Resources was held on the basis of the Marine Hydrophysical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences in October 3 – 7, 2017 in Sevastopol.
Hosts of the Conference are the Federal State Budgetary Scientific Institution "Marine Hydrophysical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences" and the Section of Oceanology, Atmospheric Physics and Geography of the Department of Earth Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences supported by the Russian Foundation for Basic Research under Project No. 17-05-20401 G and Federal Agency of Scientific Organizations (FASO) under the Agreement No. 007-02-1380.
The event was attended by about 150 scientists from all over Russian Federation – specialists in the field of oceanology, physics of the sea, ocean geography and biogeochemistry, representing 54 scientific organizations of the country.
The formal opening session of a conference began with the speech of the dignitiaries – O. Mugin, the adviser of the department of the Directorate for Coordination and Support of Organizations in the Sphere of Science of Russia (FASOof Russia); I. Socratova, Deputy Head of the Department of Earth Sciences of RAS; V. Zhmur, the Head of the Office of Competitive Projects in Earth Sciences and Natural Scientific Methods of Research in the Humanities of the Russian Foundation for Basic Research. Welcoming letters were received from V. Bondur, the Chairman of the Program Committee of the Conference of the Academician of RAS and M. Romanovsky, the Head of the Department for Coordination and Support of Organizations in the Sphere of Science (FASO of Russia).
Work of the Conference was divided into three following sections: Current State and Actual Problems of Oceanology, Marine Resources, their Protection and Use and Environmental Problems and Environmental Management. Participants of the Conference presented 90 plenary and 30 poster presentations reflecting the results of fundamental research of physical, biogeochemical and ecological processes in the seas of Russia. At the plenary and sectional sessions, key areas of research and development providing scientific and technical development of the marine sector of the Russian economy, technological and environmental safety of nature management were discussed. Four plenary reports were presented by leading Russian experts in the field of monitoring the state of the seas of Russia, studying marine ecosystems, fundamental and applied problems of oceanological research.
During the event, the offsite session of the Section of Oceanology, Atmospheric Physics and Geography of the Department of Earth Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences was held (Section Head is G. Matishov, the Academician of the RAS, member of the Presidium of RAS, Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Professor, Director of the Murmansk Marine Biological Institute,). The subject of 6 scientific reports was devoted to the processes in the Arctic, contact, remote and theoretical methods of the Black Sea research, as well as the development of methods of mathematical modeling of marine processes.
The Conference Participants noted the high scientific level of the reports given and the applied importance of the presented research. Based on the results of the Conference, it was decided to publish reports of young scientists in the collection of scientific papers of the FSBSI MHI.
