Old Picture Story

This picture is more than 30 years old. It adorns the museum exposition dedicated to the operational oceanology development in Marine Hydrophysical Institute. History of this photography can be called legendary without exaggeration. Recently it came onto Stanislav Kuleshov, the employee of our institute, the leading engineer of the Scientific Activity Popularization Department. He told us that this picture showed one of the episodes of the time when MHI worked closely with astronauts. We can see double hero of the Soviet Union Georgy Grechko, who taking part at a conference in Yalta, decided to visit our Institute. At the entrance he was met by the director Academician Boris Nelepo. Drawing attention to the fact that the outstanding astronaut has no Star of the Hero of USSR on his chest, Mr. Nelepo asked where it was. The space explorer replied with a smile: "I’m wearing it in my pocket so as not to lose it." The director asked to take the award out, took it in his hands and with the words "We lose nothing", attached the Star to the jacket of the astronaut.
