Warm Welcome

The postdoctoral candidate of the King Abdullah University of Technology (Saudi Arabia) Anatoly Anisimov delivered a speech at the Marine Hydrophysical Institute. His report "Observation and Numerical Modeling of Mesoscale Dust Storms on the Arabian Peninsula" met with strong interest of the colleagues. A full house gathered for a meeting with a foreign guest. It took place in the format of a scientific seminar, but with a sense of family joy, as it happens when a dear person comes back after a long trip. During his speech, Anatoly talked about the work in the Arabian University he devoted to a year and a half, and what he had in common with Marine Hydrophysical Institute. After the report the scientist also told us about the purpose of his visit to Sevastopol:

"…I wanted to share with colleagues about the results of my work, to tell about our university, about the structure of science in Saudi Arabia. I think that this was of high interest in Marine Hydrophysical Institute. The subject is close to what is being studied here, so I shared the details hoping that someone will be able to draw some ideas. It was also useful for me to hear the opinions of my colleagues. There were a lot of questions from the audience, which were interesting to answer.

This meeting is very meaningful for me, since I have been associated with Marine Hydrophysical Institute for a long time and quite closely. I worked here from 2008 to 2014. At first, I studied in graduate school, defended my thesis under the guidance of Vladimir Efimov, and then for another year worked as a research assistant in the Atmosphere and Ocean Interaction Department. It so happened that the students of Vladimir Efimov (and he has an entire galaxy) are scattered all over the world and I am glad that being one of them …
