The department of Applied Oceanology of UNESCO-IOC and the Protection of Natural Waters of the Oceanological Faculty of the Russian State Hydrometeorological University of St. Petersburg and the basic department of the Marine Hydrophysical Institute of RAS (http://solab.rshu.ru) invites students to study for the master's degree on the profile OPERATIONAL OCEANOGRAPHY with the speciality 05.04.05 «Applied hydrometeorology» (face-to-face form of learning).
The program «Operational Oceanography» suggests studying relevant problems, methods for their solution and application of the latest technologies for predicting the state of the seas and oceans. The emphasis are arranged in such a way as to cover the most demanded knowledge and skills in the field of "Applied Hydrometeorology".
During the learning process students will gain insight into the full cycle of creating Operational Oceanography products:
Master's degree program is divided into blocks. The basic block covers general scientific knowledge, the main one allows developing professional competencies, the practice block provides students with the opportunity to test and deepen the knowledge gained in practice.
The industrial practice is carried out on the basis of the Federal State Budget Scientific Institution “Marine Hydrophysical Institute of RAS". During the learning process students are invited to participate in seminars and conferences held both at the Russian State Hydrometeorological University, the Federal State Budget Scientific Institution “Marine Hydrophysical Institute of RAS" and in other research centers in the country and abroad, take part in grant competitions, as well as in student exchange programs with partner universities.
The Russian State Hydrometeorological University is the higher state educational institution of Russia, the only one in Europe that has the status of a regional training center of the World Meteorological Organization. The RSHU diplomas are internationally recognized and professionally recognized in the 185 WMO member countries.
The qualifications developed during the learning process on the «Operational Oceanography» program are in demand both in Russian research institutes and commercial companies, and abroad.
The learning is provided both on a state-funded basis and under the contracts for the provision of paid educational services.
