Scientific Activity
In 1980, E.F. Vasechkina graduated the Hydrological Faculty of the Odessa Hydrometeorological Institute majoring in Oceanology. In 1980, she was sent by distribution to work in Sevastopol branch of Zubov State Oceangraphic Institute. In 1981 she became the postgraduate of Marine Hydrophysical Institute. After graduating it in 1984, she was hired by the Department of Dynamic Stochastic Modeling of the Ocean, where she continues her scientific activities up to the present (currently it is System Analysis Department). In 1986, Elena F. Vasechkina successfully defended her PhD thesis in the specialty 04.00.22 - “Geophysics (Sea Physics)” on the topic “Data Assimilation in Integrated Models of the Upper Ocean Layer”.
Having defended her thesis, Elena Vasechkina developed new methods of marine environment state analysis and forecast based on the use of modern methods of the theory of complex systems. A number of computational methods were studied and analyzed based on the general idea of the evolution of the problem solution by analogy with biological evolution. These methods subsequently formed the basis of her own developments in the field of oceanology and marine ecology, specifically in the areas of simulation and data processing. In this direction, new interesting results were obtained, in particular, a concept for a new approach to marine ecosystems modeling on a small scale, based on the synthesis of Lagrangian and Eulerian methods for representing the dynamics of ecosystem components was developed.
In 2004, Elena F. Vasechkina obtained the academic title of Senior Research Associate.
In 2006, she entered the doctoral research program of the MHI of NAS of Ukraine and graduated in 2009.
She worked on the following projects and themes of the institute: Ecoshelf, Shelf Resources, Informresurs, Management, Fundamental Oceanology and Shore.
In 2014, Elena F. Vasechkina became a Doctor of Sciences (Geography), specialty 25.00.28 “Oceanology”, defending a dissertation on the topic “Spatiotemporal Variability of the Ecosystems in the Coastal Zone of the Black Sea on the Basis of Object-Oriented Modeling”.
At present time, she is carrying out experimental and theoretical studies with the aim of creating an information technology for marine management engaged in the cultivation of polyculture mollusks — macrophytes near the Crimea coast, and is developing a joint object-oriented chemical-biological model of mariculture in the Sevastopol Bay.
Over 70 scientific papers has been published according to the results of E. Vasechkina research.
As the Deputy Director on Scientific, Methodological and Educational Work, Elena is effectively developing a new direction not only for Marine Hydrophysical Institute, but also for other academic organizations in Russia. She carries out a lot of work in the field of science and education integration and popularization of scientific achievements of the institute. Under her leadership, Marine Hydrophysical Institute regularly hosts popular science events for schoolchildren and students, prepares materials to cover the institute work in the mass media and develops electronic information resources of FSBSI FRC MHI.
